Rainbow Meadow
Farms is a
multi-generational family farm in Greene County, NC having been in
our family since 1746. The farm is so named because of the Rainbow
Run, a beautiful winding stream that borders the clover-laden meadow
behind the old homeplace. Jeff and Sandra Garner, along with
their children,
Genell
Pridgen and husband John, and Lynn Weston and husband Tim, as well
as the grandchildren, comprise the Rainbow Meadow Farms family.
Our mission at
Rainbow Meadow Farms
is to employ sustainable farming practices thereby producing not
only superior tasting and healthy meat products but also preserving
and enhancing the ecological health of our farmland, water and local
wildlife. Eight generations have taken pride in producing a healthy
food product for the people of eastern NC. Now we want to share
what we feel is simply the best meats for you and your family.
What distinguishes our products from the
competition:
A mild, tender
and delicate flavor is the hallmark of
Rainbow Meadow Farms All Natural
Dorper Lamb. We chose the Dorper breed as it is
especially well suited to the pasture-based rotational system of
sustainable farming employed by Rainbow Meadow Farms. The delicate
flavor of our Rainbow Meadow Farms All-Natural Dorper Lamb is embued
with subtle variations based upon the seasonality of the grasses,
legumes and wild herbs in our pastures.
Our method of
production and slaughter is what sets
Rainbow Meadow Farms All Natural Free-Range Chicken apart
from others, giving it a "gourmet" taste. Truly free-ranged
chicken has a firmer texture while maintaining incredible tenderness
and without the fat found in commercially available
chicken. The superior taste of
Rainbow Meadow Farms All Natural
Free-Range Chicken comes from the diet of the
chickens which consists of approximately 30% grass/herbs and
insects. The chickens are moved daily to fresh grass. We process
our chickens using an air-chill system instead of immersion (water)-chilling.
This also enhances the tenderness and texture of our chicken,
whereas immersion-chilling creates a "mushy" soft
product because of
the retention of water in the carcass.
Rainbow
Meadow Farms All Natural Pastured Pork
can be described
in two words, "lush and incredible". It was our desire to produce
pork that tasted the way pork used to taste. No more "hard as
a brick" pork chops. We knew that producing tender pork would
require different genetics than the lines commercially available.
It would require genetics from pigs maintained on pasture for
generations. It would require genetic lines that produced a
pork product richer and deeper in color with good marbling.
Pork is NOT "The Other White Meat". Berkshire pork is known
throughout the world for exceptional juiciness, flavor and
tenderness. Thus, Berkshire-sired pork was the obvious choice for
our farm. The flavor of
Rainbow Meadow Farms All Natural
Pastured Pork is enhanced by what they feed on:
grasses and herbs, acorns, barley and hops from the local
brewery. Our pork offers a uniquely distinctive taste
experience.
